Chaos Kitchen Creations: Critter Safe Fudge

Get the recipe for critter-safe fudge from last week’s story! And more critter pictures!

We have been on Substack for almost 2 years now, and I am not sure if I just missed the recipe format feature. At first I thought it just came out, but a quick Perplexity search said it came out in 2022… So, it was here when we started.

Critter Safe Fudge

Head Desk.

Well, as I completely missed this in our other 25 or so recipes. I am going to give it a whirl here. But I would love to hear what everyone thinks of the format, and if we should continuing doing the recipes on the fly or if they prefer this nifty built in version.

That being said, I’d love to get everyone’s input should we go back and update our older recipes to match this new format, or just let it be? Or do you actually prefer the original layout? Taking Votes in the poll.

PS – Tod’s voting against it. The recipe format almost instantly becames post “too long for email”.

For this month’s recipe, we have a “critter-approved fudge recipe”. Tod found and made this – it was featured in last week’s Nano-Sapiens story. Oddly, we can’t actually test this with our pups as both are now on food sensitivity diets! But that is a whole another bag of kibble.

But first, critter pictures!

Critter-Approved Carob Fudge

Fudge made with carob, nuts, sesame seeds, peanut butter, and honey!

Prep time: 10 minutes · Cook/chill time: 100 minutes · Total: 110 minutes
Yield: Depends on how hungry you are

Tools: Big bowls, whisks, small saute pan, saucepan, and stirring spoon.

Ingredients

  • Dry: 1 cup Carob Powder
  • Dry: 2/3 cup Chopped Nuts (peanuts or cashews)
  • Dry: 1/3 cup Sesame Seeds
  • Dry: 1 cup Shredded Coconut, Unsweetened
  • Wet: 1 cup Peanut Butter – make sure there is no xylitol or other ingredients bad for critters.
  • Wet: 3/4 cup Honey

Steps

  1. We used white sesame seeds. To bring out their flavor, we dry roasted them in a small saute pan. Basically, stir them around until most of them have some color.
  2. Combine the Dry Ingredients: This is almost always an early step of any recipe. Whisk the carob powder, chopped nuts, sesame seeds, and coconut in a large bowl.
  3. Combine the Wet Ingredients: In a saucepan, combine the peanut butter and honey. Heat over low, stirring constantly until it’s melted and smooth.
  4. Combine Wet into Dry: Also as usual, add the wet ingredients to the dry. Mix until no dry carob remains.
  5. Transfer to a silicone pan (to prevent sticking) and chill for 100 minutes.
  6. Unlike what I did, to avoid cutting the silicone pan, take the fudge out of the pan, slice and serve.

Chaos Critters Tip and Question of the Week

Chaos Tip of the Week

Chocolate might be the best flavor in the world, but saving it all for yourself like a dragon’s horde is still a noble goal.

Critter’s Weekly Question

When you want to bribe your significant other, what is the one treat that you can use to get them on your side?
